During the ten months of the Program, the interns spend six months at a Hungarian central administrative organisation (in ministries, background institutions, county government offices). The six-month-long Hungarian phase is followed by a three-month-period spent abroad in a public administration institution in the European Union.

1. Introduction

During the ten months of the Program, the interns spend six months at a Hungarian central administrative organisation (in ministries, background institutions, county government offices). The six-month-long Hungarian phase is followed by a three-month-period spent abroad in a public administration institution in the European Union.

2. Application

Students can send their application electronically; they can give their professional preferences or field of interests. The internship places are offered by the Prime Minister’s Office in accordance with the applicants professional backgrounds and interests in the traineeship possibilities, offers and needs of the ministries and offices of central public administration.

3. Selection 

First the applicants have to complete a test. After that only the best applicants are selected to be interviewed where their motivation is checked by the HR professionals of the Prime Minister’s Office. The main requirements are: dedication to public service, aptitude, foreign language knowledge, and the HR needs of the ministries. The applicants also have to take part in an interview in English, German or French to test their language knowledge.

4. Training

They take part in basic public administration trainings and other complementary workshops and in EU lectures during the Program.

In their first week the interns take part in a three-day-training where they acquire basic knowledge of public administration.

Then every month they participate in two-day-long workshops in the following topics:

Group cooperation, organizational culture and organizational adaptation

Change management, conflict management, communication in workplace situations

Negotiation and presentation. Negotiating and decision-making mechanisms

Before the beginning of the phase abroad interns take part in EU lectures.

5. Mentors

The interns are supported by mentors during the whole ten months of the internship program. Mentors are experienced, respected senior colleagues of the host institutions who help and monthly evaluate the intern’s performance  during the Program.

6. Evaluation

Mentors help the interns all the way through the internship period and evaluate the interns’ performance during and at the end of the program.

The performance is evaluated every month, every three months and at the end of the program. 

The standards of evaluation are determined in the Terms and Condition of the Program.

7. Final exam

In order to check the interns’ academic and practical knowledge, they give an account of their knowledge twice during the Program.  The final exam is based on the lectures on public administration and the syllabus of the workshops.
